PBL assessment blog

Page history last edited by Conor 5 years, 11 months ago

For my PBL Assessment and rubric, I have written an assignment in which the students must present in groups about a figure of significance in history or modern culture.

I originally assigned this project to Kindergarteners, to be prepared with their parents and presented as a form of show and tell. For the purposes of this assignment, I have adapted it to be prepared by elementary school students who have access to technology and research tools in their classroom setting.

Project: Famous Person Historical Presentation

For this project, groups must choose a person of note, living or dead, and do a brief presentation on their life. There are three aspects to this project: research, presentation, and a visual display.

Project Goals

  1. Students work together to complete a large task.

  2. Students conduct research about a topic.

  3. Students practice presentation and public speaking skills.

Students will be given opportunities to work on their research and visual display in class, though they are encouraged to also work outside of the classroom.

The presentation must include the following information on the group’s chosen person.

-Basic biographical information: Name, Birth date, and a summary of their life including family and education.

-What are they most known for?: What is the person most known for? Please give details about the person’s accomplishments.

-Impact on Modern Society: How has this person influenced people in this generation?

Assessment:

Students will primarily be graded on their presentation, visual aid, and whether or not each student has contributed to the presentation portion. Students will also be monitored during the research and visual aid production periods for teamwork and participation, which will also factor in to the total grade.

The teacher will meet with each group after they have presented and discuss the positives of the presentation and how the group worked as a team. The students will also be able to share feedback about their teammates and how they feel about the project. If necessary, students will be allowed to make necessary adjustments and present to the teacher again.
